ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 7. Kazakhstan has launched the fifth gas reinjection compressor at the Karachaganak field, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

As the Ministry noted, this significant project is part of the ongoing modernization and expansion of the field’s infrastructure.

Participating in the equipment launch ceremony, Vice Minister of Energy Alibek Zhamauov noted that the project's completion ahead of schedule attested to the well-coordinated work of the Karachaganak project's contracting companies, the authorized body PSA LLP, and government agencies.

The Karachaganak field, one of the world's largest oil and gas fields, plays a key role in Kazakhstan's energy sector. The commissioning of the new compressor will increase the volume of gas reinjection, which will help to maintain production levels and improve the field's efficiency.

To note, the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field, located in the West Kazakhstan region, is one of the largest oil and gas condensate fields in the world, with geological initial reserves of more than 1.7 billion tons of liquid hydrocarbons and more than 1.7 trillion cub.m. of gas. In 1979, researchers discovered the field, and they initiated its pilot development in 1984.

The government of Kazakhstan and the Alliance of Companies, representing Shell with 29.25 percent, ENI with 29.25 percent, Chevron with 18 percent, Lukoil with 13.5 percent, and KazMunayGas JSC with 10 percent shares, are implementing the Karachaganak project under the Final Production Sharing Agreement (FPSA). On November 18, 1997, the government of Kazakhstan signed the agreement, which has a 40-year term, and it came into effect on January 27, 1998.
