BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 20. Plans are underway in Kyrgyzstan to construct four cascades of small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 160 MW, Trend reports.

The Public-Private Partnership Center of Kyrgyzstan states that the construction, operation, and maintenance of the four cascades of small hydropower plants on the Chatkal river—Bashky-Terek, Korgon-Say, Chunkurchak, and Aygyr-Dzhal—will be carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP).

As part of the project, an additional 1,800 hectares of irrigated land will receive enhanced irrigation.

The project will be implemented by the private partner, represented by a consortium of companies, with Grant Holding LLC as the leading partner, under a “sandbox” framework. It will be fully financed by the private partner without any state co-financing. The project cost is $200 million.

Additionally, on September 18, an agreement was signed for a public-private partnership project aimed at building a small hydropower plant on the Aral River in the Issyk-Kul district.

This project includes the construction of a small hydropower plant with a capacity of 1 MW, which will generate 4,235,874 kWh annually and provide drinking water to 7,000 local residents in the city of Cholpon-Ata. It will be implemented by the private partner, Minur LLC, under a “sandbox” framework, with funding amounting to $1.2 million.
