BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, January 22. The Bishkek City Hall in Kyrgyzstan has prematurely repaid 31.7 million soms ($362,492) to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), said Askat Alagozov, the press secretary of the Kyrgyz president, on social media, Trend reports.
In 2017, a loan of 25 million euros was taken, which was supposed to be repaid by March 25, 2025.
Alagozov also mentioned that a new batch of equipment, purchased with local funds, had arrived in the capital. This includes 20 multi-purpose machines for snow removal, road salting, and summer road cleaning, as well as three special vehicles for snow collection.
He pointed out that Bishkek City Hall updated its fleet across various sectors last year, a first.
"Repaying debts while simultaneously purchasing a large amount of specialized equipment (more than 200 units in total) could indicate that previously budgeted funds were either spent inefficiently or simply disappeared," said Alagozov.
