BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 10. The opening of the North-South road in Kyrgyzstan has been postponed from the planned May 2025 to 2026, Trend reports via the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan.
This decision was made because two additional galleries are being constructed on the road to protect against large and voluminous avalanches, along with three elevated bridges.
Moreover, a 25-kilometer bypass road from the village of Barpy to the village of Safarovka will be constructed within the framework of the North-South road.
The total length of the highway, which connects the north and south of the country and has strategic significance, is 433 kilometers. About 200 kilometers of the road are being built in areas where there were previously no roads. Once the road is operational, the travel time from Jalal-Abad to Balykchy will be reduced to 6 hours (currently, the journey takes 13 hours).
