BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. The Trade Facilitation in Central Asia project, commissioned by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), will support the development of digital solutions to facilitate trade in Tajikistan, the source at GIZ told Trend.
“This includes creating systems for sharing information and processing trade documents electronically, which will save time and reduce paperwork. For example, during the previous phase of the project, a new instant data exchange portal was piloted at the 'Dustlik' and 'Dostuk' border check points (Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan) for filling out customs declarations,” the source added.
Additionally, employees of state entities will receive training to improve their skills and knowledge in managing cross-border trade. This will help them implement the new procedures and digital solutions effectively.
“The project will promote cooperation between government agencies and the private sector to enhance trade facilitation. This includes regular dialogues and joint initiatives to address trade challenges,” the source said.
A trade facilitation agreement was signed on June 5, 2024, between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and GIZ. The project, which runs from January 2024 through December 2026, has a total budget of 6.5 million euros, distributed among Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. These initiatives are expected to enhance trade dynamics and economic integration in the region.
