Turkmenistan's commodity exchange sees surge in sales

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 1. Turkmenistan held auctions on its State Commodity and Raw Material Exchange, where it sold raw materials totaling more than $70.9 million last week, Trend reports.

According to the exchange, this is about 53.8 percent more than in the previous reporting period, during which the value of concluded transactions amounted to $46.1 million.

For foreign currency, foreign participants in exchange trading, including from Türkiye, the UAE, Afghanistan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine, bought carbamide, technical sulfuric acid produced by the Turkmenhimiya State Concern, liquefied gas, diesel fuel, petroleum bitumen, heating oil, base oil, and polypropylene from the Turkmennebit and Turkmengaz state concerns.

Furthermore, bedding sets, cotton yarn, and fabric were sold on the exchange to companies from Azerbaijan, Türkiye and the UAE for foreign currency.

Turkmen businessmen bought polypropylene, cotton yarn, handmade carpets, and licorice root extract for the domestic market for a total amount of more than 42 million Turkmen manat ($12 million).

Last week's auctions of Turkmenistan's State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange yielded 36 transactions.

Meanwhile, the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan was established on July 29, 1994. It is the most important body of state regulation for export-import operations.
