TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 30. Rail shipments of oil products to Uzbekistan from January through May 2024 decreased to 1 million tons compared to 1.14 million tons a year earlier.
The data obtained by Trend from the analytical company Argus shows that most of the fuel (910,000 tons) was shipped from Russia, while imports from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were declining.
“Supplies were running low as many companies were hoarding large stocks at local oil depots in the first half of the year, grappling with a slowdown in sales of already imported batches due to a lackluster demand in the domestic market,” the supplier noted.
To note, the turnover of oil, oil products, and similar materials in Uzbekistan from January through August 2024 amounted to $1.8 billion. This figure increased by 80 percent compared to the same period last year ($1.1 billion from January through August 2023).
Exports of oil, oil products, and similar materials from Uzbekistan amounted to $409.4 million, while imports reached $1.4 billion.
