BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. The export of products through Jolfa Customs of East Azerbaijan Province, located in northwestern Iran, increased by 49 percent in value and 33.7 percent in weight during nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 20, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), Director General of Iran's Jolfa Customs Office Ali Bisalam told reporters, Trend reports.
In nine months, Jolfa Customs exported about 318,000 tons of products worth $201 million. However, Jolfa Customs exported 237,000 tons of products worth $135 million during the same period last year.
During the nine months, Jolfa Customs exported petroleum products, construction materials, rubber products, and many other items, according to Bisalam. The main destinations for the products were Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Russia, Georgia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan.
The official added that during nine months, about 240,000 tons of products worth $754 million were imported to the country via Jolfa Customs. These were mainly raw materials and equipment for production enterprises.
During the nine months, Jolfa Customs imported 664,000 tons of products into the country for transit purposes. This is 8 percent less than in the same period last year. Jolfa Customs processed 434,000 tons of products exported from the country for transit purposes at the same time. This is 3 percent more than for the same period last year,” he pointed out.
He stated that the revenue of Jolfa Customs amounted to 24.7 trillion rials (about $43.4 million) for nine months.
To note, the Iranian Jolfa is located on the border of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in an area of 500 ha and is considered one of the largest customs houses in the country.
