Some 768 kinds of ship spare parts were produced in Iran, Chairman of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization and Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad said.
Rastad made the remark in Tehran at the 4th International Exhibition on Transport, Logistics, and Related Industries, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club.
“Iran saved 610 billion rials (about $14.5 million) by producing these ship spare parts domestically,” the chairman of the organization added. “As a result, the outflow of funds was prevented.”
“Previously, most of the equipment required by Iran in the maritime industry was supplied by foreign manufacturers,” the chairman of the organization added.
Rastad said that the special attention is paid to the support for domestic production.
The chairman of the organization added that Iran's offshore areas are more than 5,000 kilometers long and Iran's maritime potential (shipping and discharging) has increased by 240 million tons per year.
The strong devaluation was observed in Iran last summer. The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November. Afterwards, Iran initiated the local production of equipment required in different sectors not to spend money on import of this equipment.
