Toyota on Friday announced a voluntary recall of some 600,000 Sienna minivans because of safety concerns about potential corrosion in its spare tire carrier.

The recall applies to certain models of the van from 1998 to 2010 that were driven in cold climates where road salt may have cause corrosion, Toyota said. The tire could fall off the vehicle if the problem deteriorates, dpa reported.

Owners will be asked to bring their cars to the dealership for inspection.

The Japanese automaker has been plagued by a series of recalls in recent months, including more than 8 million vehicles due to brake problems and uncontrollable acceleration.
