The General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces made an official statement following the bombing of the Kurdish separatist positions in northern Iraq by the Turkish Air Force planes on Wednesday night, the Sabah newspaper reported.
The statement informs that successful offensive operations were carried out, resulting in the attack of 60 targets.
The General Staff reports that the strikes hit only objects which belonged to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
The Turkish Air Force planes carried out bombings of Kurdish separatist positions in northern Iraq on Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported.
According to CNN-Turk, about 15 fighters, including F -16's, attacked PKK militant bases and use them to attack the Turkish military in Turkey, RIA Novosti reports.
There were no reports about airstrike casualties.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years, claiming over 40,000 lives. The PKK, which demands an independent Kurdish state, is designated as a terrorist organization by both the UN and the EU.
PKK militants previously threatened the Turkish authorities with intensified armed conflict if concrete steps are not taken to address the long-term Kurdish problem.
