BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Internet speeds in Azerbaijani state-owned companies are planned to be increased to 200 megabits per second, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev said during a meeting dedicated to the unified action plan on “Azerbaijan's New Digital Architecture” was held under the chairmanship of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Trend reports.
“Digitalization itself is a step-by-step process, and today we can say that we are gradually following the path the world has already gone through. This is the electronification of primary data — in other words, transferring information from paper to electronic formats. The second stage is the digitalization of services and processes. In this direction, significant progress has already been achieved by both state-owned companies and the private sector. The final point we will reach is the formation of smart and proactive services, which includes digital transformation,” the minister said.
According to him, the digital development concept adopted in this direction is of particular importance.
“In addition, following the adoption of the digital development concept, amendments were made to more than 200 regulatory legal acts and new documents were adopted. Furthermore, the expansion of infrastructure has been fully ensured.
The ‘Online Azerbaijan’ project has been successfully completed. At the time of the project’s launch, the average internet speed in the country was approximately 12 megabits per second; today this figure has reached 90 megabits per second. In state-owned companies, this indicator stands at 150 megabits per second. By the end of the year, we plan to increase this figure to 200 megabits per second. Today, there is not a single remote locality in Azerbaijan where broadband internet services are not provided,” the minister said.
