Azerbaijan will hold a blood donation campaign on the anniverary of Shusha's occupation.
The campaign will be held at the Institute of Scientific and Technical Haematology May 8 upon the initiative of the Parliamentary Journalists Association and with the support of the Azerbaijani Red Crescent Society, association head Elshad Eyvazli told Trend.
Shusha is located in Nagorno Karabakh, and was occupied by Armenia May 8, 1992. Hundreds of civilians were killed, roughly 60 civilians were taken hostage and hundreds went missing. Women and children were among the dead, wounded and hostages. Approximately 22,000 people became refugees. There are 248 historical monuments, eight museums, an art gallery, a mausoleum, eight music schools and dozens of cultural objects in the occupied territory.
Eyvazli said they appealed to deputies and media to participate in the campaign.
"Today, people are suffering from anemia in Azerbaijan. We believe this campaign will help to solve their problems. In addition, a rally on the anniversary of Shusha's occupation is important. I am sure that the MPs and journalists will take an active part in this campaign," he added.
