Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 8 /Trend/

The draft law on political parties in Azerbaijan envisages that the funding of these parties from the state budget will assign certain obligations on them, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Siyavush Novruzov told the NAP official website

"A total of 50 parties have passed the state registration in the country, but in general, up to 100 parties operate. But, unfortunately, the activities of most of them do not correspond to their declared objectives, and as well as making statements in the press, they do not do anything more," Novruzov said.

"If to try to classify political parties in Azerbaijan, we shall find that, except the NAP, all the rest need to update their activities.

"Of course, these parties need to review their structure, to conduct reforms, deal exclusively with the party work," Novruzov said.

He said in some EU countries, the registration of parties, not conducting serious activities within two years, not participating in any elections, are automatically eliminated. "I believe that the political parties in Azerbaijan should also deal with party work," he said.

The new draft law on political parties is considered by the Venice Commission to make a conclusion. It is assumed that the draft law will be discussed at the autumn session of the Parliament.
