Azerbaijan sentenced an individual accused of killing 80-year-old woman with extreme cruelty.
Serious Crimes Court sentenced Shabran (formerly Davachi) region resident Elchin Farzaliyev, accused of killing owner of the apartment which he rented. The court sentenced Farzaliyev to 14 years and six months imprisonment.
The accused is charged with Article 120.2.5 (deliberate murder committed on mercenary prompting or by order, as well as with a view of use a body of a victim) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Sumgayit resident Havanisa Novruzova's dead body was found Dec.8 2009 in her apartment. As a result of search activities undertaken by members of the Sumgait Police Department, it was found that the murder was committed by Farzaliyev, who rented her apartment, who was convicted four times.
In his testimony Farzaliyev said that he had committed murder because of mercenary prompting. According to accused, while Novruzova's grandchild was not in home, he threatened the woman and demanded her money. The woman died from stab wounds. Then Farzaliyev turned upside down the apartment in search of money, but could not find them.
