Iranian president calls on Judiciary System to pursue $2.8 bln-corruption case

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged the Judiciary System to strictly follow and investigate a $2.8 billion-corruption case the in Iranian Saderat Bank, IRIB reported.

Three high-ranking officials of Iranian Bank Saderat (Export) were arrested on charges of corruption for $2.8 billion during last week.

Some of Iranian newspapers, such as Keyhan dependent on Iranian Suprepe leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reported the relationships between corruption agents and Ahmadinejad's allies, especially his chef of staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei.

Head of the bank Mohammad Jahromi said earlier that six people have been questioned because of corruption case so far and three officials were arrested on charges of falsifying documents and corruption so far, Mehr News Agency reported.

Bank Saderat is one of Iran's major banks with 3,300 active branches and share capital of $1.6 billion.

In September 2006, the U.S. government imposed sanctions on Bank Saderat Iran, barring it from dealing with U.S. financial institutions.
