BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. The Heydar Aliyev Center hosted the grand opening of the “Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Spirituality and Art,” organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan in partnership with the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
The opening of the festival featured an international forum on the theme “In Search of Eternal Truth,” which brought together about 70 researchers and scholars from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Canada, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Tajikistan, and other countries.
Among the attendees, Iranian sociologist and professor at the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies, Seyed Javad Miri, presented a lecture on “The Revelation of Nasimi’s Mystical World.”
“For me, it is a great honor to speak here in Baku, a city I have visited five times. Yet this visit offered a unique opportunity to participate in the Nasimi International Festival for the first time, a truly high-level event. Imadeddin Nasimi is a figure whose relevance transcends time and space. His legacy speaks directly to the human soul and the inner world of every individual,” Miri told Trend.
He emphasized that one of the central themes of Nasimi’s work is love for humanity.
“Nasimi explains that this love arises from sincere engagement with the world, nature, life, and all living beings. Without love, existence itself unravels, severing the connection between past, present, and future generations. Love is the thread that binds cultures, civilizations, and generations together,” the professor added.
Speaking about the Nasimi Festival, Miri described the festival as more than a cultural event.
“It is a chance to remind the world of the value of inner light, the power of words, and the enduring truths conveyed through great poetry. May the Nasimi Festival continue to inspire, unite, and remind us that at the center of it all is humanity, as the source of love, meaning, and spirit,” he stated.
Since its launch in 2018, the festival has become both a tradition and a vital cultural platform, created to connect generations and cultures, foster dialogue, and shed light on the profound legacy of the great thinker and poet Imadaddin Nasimi through the lens of contemporary art. This year, from September 23 through 25, Baku and Shamakhi will serve as the centers of an extensive program devoted to exploring the poet’s philosophical and literary heritage, alongside a broad spectrum of events in literature, theater, and music.
