BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. Azerbaijan’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport reported a record number of passengers in 2024, with over 7.53 million passengers served, marking a 31 percent increase compared to the previous year, the airport's press service told Trend.
According to the statement, a total of over 59,238 flights were completed, with the network covering approximately 80 destinations.
Passengers had access to services from 40 airlines, including 18 low-cost carriers, offering a wide range of routes across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Foreign airlines carried over 3.49 million passengers on international flights, while Azerbaijan’s AZAL national carrier served more than 3.31 million passengers. A particularly notable growth was seen in the transit segment, with transit passengers rising by over 130 percent, reaching more than 373,383 people.
Moreover, Azerbaijan conducted 3,419 flights on the Baku–Nakhchivan–Baku route, marking a 24 percent increase from 2023. However, the number of passengers on this route grew by just 4 percent, totaling over 728,000 people.
