ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 22. Prosecutors in the West Kazakhstan region have uncovered instances of excessive emissions into the environment, Trend reports, citing the regional prosecutor's office.
The Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the West Kazakhstan region identified cases of excessive emissions and discharges of pollutants into the environment, totaling 264 tons, in the activities of the Kazakh branch of "Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V."
"In this regard, following the inspection, the company was held administratively accountable under Article 328 of the Administrative Code (Violation of permissible anthropogenic impact standards on the environment), and fines totaling 739,568,808 tenge (approximately $1,405,180) have been fully collected," the prosecutor's office reported.
"Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V." (KPO B.V.) is an international consortium acting as the operator of the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field in the West Kazakhstan region. The company was founded in 1997 to develop one of the largest hydrocarbon fields in the world.
