BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. Natural gas production from Azerbaijan's Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) field reached 4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas from January through April 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the Ministry of Energy indicates that this marks an increase of 100 million cubic meters, or 2.3 percent, compared to the same period in 2024 (4.4 billion cubic meters).
To note, in total, the gas production during the reporting period included 4.5 billion cubic meters from the ACG field, 9 billion cubic meters from the Shah Deniz field, and 0.5 billion cubic meters from the Absheron field. Additionally, SOCAR's share of the production was approximately 2.7 billion cubic meters.
Regarding exports, Azerbaijan sold a total of 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas abroad during the reporting period. Of this, 4 billion cubic meters were sold to Europe, 3.1 billion cubic meters to Türkiye (including 1.9 billion cubic meters through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP)), and 0.9 billion cubic meters to Georgia.
The Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) field, situated approximately 100 km east of Baku, is the largest oilfield in the Azerbaijani portion of the Caspian basin. In 2024, bp and its co-venturers incurred around $535 million in operating expenses and almost $1,293 million in capital expenditures for ACG activities. In 2024, a novel four-dimensional (4D) high-definition ocean bottom node seismic program was initiated on ACG. The initiative, concentrating on the Balakhany and Fasila reservoirs, encompasses an area of 740 square kilometers for sources and 507 square kilometers for receivers, with an estimated total cost of around $370 million and a length of five years (2024-2028). This is bp's largest seismic acquisition commitment globally, encompassing region size, cost, and program duration.
