BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. As many as 70 million manat ($41.3 million) was allocated from the state budget of Azerbaijan to assist Türkiye in addressing the aftermath of the earthquake, Trend reports.
This issue was reflected in the draft law “On the execution of the state budget of Azerbaijan for 2024", discussed at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship.
A total of 79.6 million manat ($47 million) was used for foreign aid expenses. This included 3.8 million manat ($2.2 million) for contributions to international political organizations, which consisted of 39,700 manat ($23,400) for voluntary financial support to the International Committee of the Red Cross, 52,800 manat ($31,100) for voluntary financial support to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, 85,100 manat ($50,200) for voluntary financial support to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, 19,800 manat ($11,700) for financial support to the International Anti-Corruption Academy for relevant project and education programs, 36,600 manat ($21,600) for financial support to the OECD Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, 3.4 million manat ($2 million) for voluntary financial assistance to the Organization of Turkic States, 42,500 manat ($25,100) for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Food Security program, and 85,000 manat ($50,150) for financial assistance to the Trust Fund of the President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Besides, 4.1 million manat ($2.4 million) was used for aid related to international organizations’ offices based in Azerbaijan. This included 999,500 manat ($589,900) for a donation to the Eurasia Regional Center of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, 1.7 million manat ($1 million) for financial support to the Interstate Council of Civil Aviation and Airspace Management, 170,000 manat ($100,300) for a contribution under the agreement between the Government of Azerbaijan and the FAO on establishing a Partnership and Coordination Office, and 1.2 million manat ($708,000) for financial assistance to the ICESCO Regional Office.
In addition, 71.7 million manat ($42.3 million) was used for aid to foreign countries affected by natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and other reasons. This included 850,200 manat ($502,600) for financial assistance to Uganda related to its presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement, 170,000 manat ($100,300) - to Chile, 170,000 manat ($100,300) - Colombia, 510,100 manat ($301,500) - Antigua and Barbuda, and other expenses amounted to 79,000 manat ($46,600).
