Surplus of Azerbaijani balance of payment increases five times

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.16 / Trend , corr. N.Ismaylova /In accordance with the balance of payment by the National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA), to total surplus increased by 5.1 times to $10.8bln, which made up 22.8% of the GDP in Jan-Sept 2008, NBA said.

Retaining of high economic growth rate and acceptable oil prices on the world markets caused dramatic improvement of the balance of payments. The successful implementation of oil and gas strategy has led to the increase of export potential.

In the result the surplus of the current accounting of the balance of payment, which has been observed over the last years, increased in 2.5 times in comparison with the same period in the previous year, made up $14.8bln (31.2% from GDP) within nine months of 2008.

In comparison with the previous year, the surplus of the balance of foreign trade balance, after increasing two times, reached $20.75bln (43.8% of the GDP). Moreover as a result financings of deficit, which arose on the account of the capital movement and finances, general balance of payment became positive.

The total volume of foreign trade turnover, after exceeding indices during the analogous period of 2007 by 71.8%, in nine months of the current year was $31.7bln. In this case the merchandise import was realized to $5.5bln, and export operations - $26.2bln.

Within the accounting period commercial relations were formed with 135 countries. In this case 8.9% of commercial revolution is fallen to the CIS countries, and 91.1% - in a number of other foreign countries. Intensive commercial relations were with the U.S., Israel, Russia, France, Turkey, Japan, Great Britain, Indonesia, India and Holland. 65.7% of export-import operations of Azerbaijan are fallen on above mentioned countries' share.
