Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 15 / Trend H. Hasanov /
Turkmenistan has achieved success in a short period of time in the fight against the legalization of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism. It was recognized as a country posing no risk in financial transactions, the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing Terrorism's (EAG) mission representatives told media this week.
The assessment was made on the basis of the mission's working visit to Ashgabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The mission held a series of meetings in parliament and with the foreign, justice, finance, and economy and development ministries, as well as the Turkmen Central Bank and the customs and tax authorities, national commodity exchange, and law enforcement agencies.
The sides discussed further expanding constructive cooperation. Turkmenistan adopted the law on combating the legalization of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism in 2009.
Turkmenistan joined the EAG in June in Amsterdam at the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering's plenary meeting to integrate the country into the international financial system.
