Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Aug. 27 / Trend D.Azizov /

The Uzbek Senate approved amendments to the law "On Railway Transport" providing a personal inspection of passengers and their luggage prior to boarding a train.

These legislative measures are taken to improve the legal framework and law-enforcement practice at the facilities of the railway transport, as well as to warn and prevent emergencies that threaten life and health of people, public safety and stability of the state.

Based on the new amendments to the law adopted in 1999, a special procedure is established to inspect passengers and find people on stations and platforms in order to prevent terrorist and other illegal acts, enhance public safety in crowded places and prevent smuggling of banned hazardous goods and explosives to the territory of the railway station.

A special body will be established and it will be responsible for passengers' safety and security of baggage on the train.

The amendments to the Law "On Railway Transport" were approved by the Legislative Chamber of the Uzbek parliament in July. The amendments will take effect following the approval by the President.
