GM Uzbekistan ups car sales in Russia by 25 per cent

GM Uzbekistan sold 92,778 cars in Russia in 2011, or 25 per cent more than the figure of the same period in 2010, the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said.

The consortium sold 54,567 Nexia cars (a 24-percent increase) and 38,211 Matiz small cars (a 25-percent increase) in 2011.

Some 6,869 cars of the Uzbek car plant were sold on the Russian market in December, which decreased by 1 per cent, the report said.

According to the Committee, Nexia car sales decreased by 5 per cent - up to 4,059 and Matiz cars increased by 7 per cent - to 2,810 in December.

According to the information, GM Uzbekistan ranked tenth in sales volumes to Russia in 2011. Nexia ranked ninth among the best sold cars, whilst Matiz is 17th.

UzDaewooAuto was established in 1996 on a parity basis by the Uzbek government and South Korea's Daewoo Motor Company.

At present, JV GM Uzbekistan produces seven models of cars, three models of which are Chevrolet - Captiva, Epica and Spark.

GM Uzbekistan increased production of automobiles by 6.2 per cent in 2010 to 217,733 cars.
