Georgia, Tbilisi, Nov.8 / Trend N.Kirtskhalia /

Doubling the wages of municipal bus drivers in Tbilisi is impossible at this stage, as the company does not have such financial resources, General Director of Tbilisi Transport Company Levan Koplatadze told reporters on Thursday.

In his words, starting July 1, the salaries of all employees, including drivers were increased by 16 percent, and at this stage the consideration of the question on increase of wages is impossible.

The company has allocated a total of eight million lari to these purposes.

"The average salary of bus drivers is 800 lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari). The amount depends on the number of hours and the route. Hourly pay for large Bogdan buses is 6.3 lari per hour, while for small Bogdan buses it is 5.3 lari. Hopefully the transportation of buses in the city will be fully restored in the coming hours, " Koplatadze said.

Reportedly, today the bus drivers started a strike in Tbilisi. More than 1300 drivers and all three autoparks of the capital are taking part in the strike..
