Kashkadarya Investment Forum 2019 was held on September 27-28 in Shakhrisabz city of Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
The event was organized by the region’s administration in cooperation with the national Ministry of Trade and Investments. Several presentations were held at the forum, one of which highlighted the establishment of Uzbek-Turkish joint venture (JV), allowing to fully localize the production of the components for mills.
The participants were also introduced to Chirakchinsky Free Economic Zone, the first free economic zone in the Kashkadarya region, and the opportunities it provides for doing business.
Within the forum, the guests attended opening of the first agricultural village in Uzbekistan in the village of Varganza, which is famous for a unique type of pomegranate growing there.
According to Oybek Shagazatov, deputy governor of the Kashkadarya region for investment projects, about 300 investors from 50 states attended the forum, and investment agreements totaling $300 million were signed at the forum.
More than 160 enterprises with foreign capital opened this year in the Kashkadarya region. In the industrial sector, the share of small and private businesses with foreign capital exceeds 51 percent.
According to the media report, in 2018, the total foreign trade turnover of the region amounted to $765 million and exceeded the indicators of 2017 by 30 percent.
