(autoinsidernews) - General Motors is expanding its lineup of cars for the Chinese market with the unveiling a long-wheelbase version of the Cadillac STS at Auto China 2006. Called the Cadillac SLS, the stretched STS has been lengthened by four inches to increase rear passenger legroom, reports Trend.

The Cadillac SLS is a very important addition to our line-up in China as it meets very specific market needs, said Jim Taylor, general manager of Cadillac. Cadillac reacts to country specific requirements and is proud to offer the SLS to Chinese luxury customers who demand extra space in the rear and other features.

The interior of the Cadillac SLS is designed to meet specific local needs in this primarily chauffeur-driven luxury segment. Three engine options will be available for the SLS, including a 2.8L V6, a 3.6L V6 and the top-level Northstar 4.6L V8 delivering 320-hp. The Cadillac SLS will be built at the Shanghai GM plant.
