Japan ready to assist Kazakhstan in construction of nuclear power plant

Japan is ready to provide technological assistance to Kazakhstan in the construction of a nuclear power plant, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Minister of State for economic response to the consequences of accident at Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, Yukio Edano, said on Wednesday.

"Japan has accumulated extensive experience in building nuclear power plants. Today there are many countries in the world which want to build new nuclear power plants and our approach is that we are willing to share our experience and to cooperate in this direction and in particular with Kazakhstan," Edano said at a briefing in Astana following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Kazykhanov.

The Japanese minister said at the same time that in Japan the role of nuclear power plant and construction in this area will be reduced.

Earlier it was reported that in the near future the Kazakh government will discuss the construction of a nuclear power plant near Lake Balkhash.
