Tajikistan exported approximately 128 million of electricity in April 2018, about 84 percent of which was supplied to Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan stated in its Monitoring and Early Warning in Tajikistan report prepared with the financial support of the OSCE.
“In April 2018, 12 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were supplied to Afghanistan from Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 power stations, 9.9 million kilowatt-hours to Kyrgyzstan, 106.9 million kilowatt-hours to Uzbekistan”, the report said.
The electricity exported to neighboring countries amounted to about 10 percent of the country's total output in the past month.
The amount of electricity produced by the subordinated capacities of Barki Tojik totaled over 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours in April 2018.
Tajikistan resumed electricity export to neighboring Uzbekistan in early April 2018 after a nearly ten-year pause.
The total amount of electricity export from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan is expected to reach at least 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
According to the agreements achieved by the energy suppliers of the two countries, yearly summer supplies to Uzbekistan will be carried out by two cents per kilowatt and yearly winter supplies – by 2.5 cents per kilowatt.
Before that, Tajikistan supplied its electricity exclusively to Afghanistan and in relatively small amounts to Kyrgyzstan.
In 2017, 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours of Tajik electricity was exported to Afghanistan by 4 cents per kilowatt. The supplies are planned be increased to 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours in 2018. According to the bilateral agreement between Barki Tojik and Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the cost of electricity supplied to Afghanistan will increase by 3 percent in 2018.
