BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Iran is determined to achieve a 10 percent share of the digital economy in GDP and is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation with all states to promote inclusive and sustainable digital development, the country's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Sattar Hashemi, said, Trend reports.
He made the announcement at the World Telecommunication Development Conference in Baku on November 18.
"The rollout of 5G as a driver of digital transformation is continuing rapidly, with more than 2,000 active stations already in operation. Video communication is not only access, but also the foundation for scientific, economic, and social growth.
Meaningful connectivity has also contributed to the promotion of digital equality," he said.
According to him, Iran is now among the best countries in terms of reducing the gap between urban and rural areas in the provision of digital services, which indicates almost equal access to digital and online services for rural and urban populations.
"The two key national programs that have made these achievements possible are: the digital government ecosystem, which provides government services through a single national portal supported by intelligent agents, and the transition to fiber optic networks, which now cover more than 9 million households and create a sustainable foundation for smart cities, digital health, and online education," the minister noted.
