BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Overall, 20 trillion rials (about $476 million) has been spent on the construction and launch of the new passenger terminal of the Kish International Airport on Kish Island, Hormozgan Province, located in the south of the country, Trend reports.

Kish Island in the Persian Gulf, is a strategic location for Iran’s economic development. The island has the Kish Free Trade Zone, which offers various incentives and facilities for trade and investment. Moreover, the island has a number of industrial infrastructures, especially for the oil sector. Kish Island is also a popular tourist destination, due to its natural beauty and cultural attractions. Iran aims to maximize the potential of this island for its national interests.

On November 14, 2023, the new passenger terminal of Kish International Airport was opened with the participation of Iran's Road and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash and other officials. The new terminal is considered the 3rd largest international terminal of the country.

The construction of this terminal started in 2012. By 2021, physical work at the terminal was 70 percent completed. During the remaining two years, it was fully built and put into use.

Around the terminal, there is a parking lot for 520 cars.
