ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 30. The volume of transactions using payment cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 16.5 trillion tenge (about $34.7 billion) in June 2024, Trend reports.
According to data from Kazakhstan's National Bank, the number of transactions was 1.1 billion in June 2024.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of non-cash transactions increased by 15.4 percent and reached 1.1 billion transactions. The volume increased by 20.1 percent, reaching 14.3 trillion tenge (about $30 billion).
At the same time, payment card users carried out 20.9 million cash withdrawal transactions worth 2.2 trillion tenge (about $4.6 billion). There is an increase in the number of cash withdrawal transactions compared to June 2023 by 1.7 percent and an increase in the volume of transactions by 12.4 percent.
Moreover, the main share of non-cash transactions in Kazakhstan was made through Internet/mobile banking (81.1 percent of the total number of transactions and 90.9 percent of the total volume of non-cash payments and money transfers) and POS terminals (18.8 percent and 8.8 percent of the total number and volume of non-cash payments and money transfers).
In addition, cash dispensing transactions were mainly carried out through ATMs (98.3 percent and 85.5 percent of the total number and volume of cash dispensing transactions, respectively).
As of July 1, 2024, Kazakhstan had 78.1 million payment cards in circulation. Debit cards account for 80 percent of all payment cards in the country, while credit cards account for 15.9 percent. Debit cards with credit limits and prepaid cards account for 4.1 percent of the total.
