BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 7. The construction of the Papan small hydropower plant has officially commenced in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, marked by a capsule-laying ceremony, Trend reports.
According to the country's Ministry of Energy, the hydropower plant, owned by the Chakan HPP company, will be situated at the Papan reservoir in the Kara-Suu district of the Osh region. The planned capacity of the plant is 25 MW, which will be achieved through two turbines, each with a capacity of 12.5 MW.
The average yearly generation of power is expected to exceed 103 million kWh. The estimated investment for the project is $27 million, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2027.
The Ministry of Energy expects that the commissioning of the new hydropower plant will bring improved stability of energy supply in the region, the creation of new job opportunities, and efficient use of water resources from the Papanskoye кeservoir for electricity generation without compromising its primary purpose of irrigation.
This year, Kyrgyzstan has already put into operation other hydropower plants, including Bala-Saruu and Kainama.
