BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 16. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan plan to increase their trade turnover to $100 million in 2025, Trend reports.
This goal was discussed during a meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Chairman of the Cabinet of the Ministers Akylbek Japarov and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
"The trade volume between our countries is still at a low level, with around $20 million in 2023. I propose that through our joint efforts, we raise it to at least $100 million by next year, and in the midterm, aim for $500 million," Japarov said.
He also mentioned a quadrilateral agreement signed by Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan for transit cargo transportation, which allows Kyrgyzstan access to the sea through Pakistan.
"This has led to an unprecedented increase in the value of the Karakoram Highway. Unfortunately, for various reasons, this unique transport corridor is still in its early stages, and we need to work together to maximize its capacity as soon as possible," Japarov stated.
Additionally, he highlighted improvements in Kyrgyzstan's investment climate and suggested establishing a Kyrgyz-Pakistani Business Council to enhance cooperation between entrepreneurs from both countries, with plans to hold its first meeting next year in Kyrgyzstan.
In response, Sharif expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for its support in voting for Pakistan's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2025-2026, emphasizing the interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation.
"I am confident that our joint efforts will elevate Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations to new heights in the near future. I take this opportunity to invite you to visit Kyrgyzstan at your convenience," Japarov concluded.
