DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 5. Tajikistan's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has highlighted progress in the construction of the Sebzor hydropower plant (HPP), located on the Shokhdara river in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region of the country, Trend reports.

During a working visit to the region, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma, accompanied by Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Toshihiro Aiki, visited the construction site to review ongoing work at the facility.

According to the ministry, construction is proceeding according to schedule. Work is continuing on several key components of the plant, including the dam, drainage gates, water treatment facilities, and the powerhouse.

Once completed, the Sebzor HPP, with a projected capacity of 11 MW, will serve approximately 227,000 people in the Gorno-Badakhshan region and an additional 468,000 people in neighboring areas of Afghanistan.

The project is being developed with support from the Tajik government, as well as contributions from development partners. Upon completion, the plant is expected to increase the overall capacity of Pamir Energy, the company overseeing the project, by 25 percent, while improving the reliability of electricity supply for more than 220,000 residents in the region.

As part of its social development program, the Sebzor HPP project has already made significant contributions to local infrastructure, including the completion of new buildings in several towns and districts. Further plans include the asphalting and illumination of 4 kilometers of roads and the construction of a modern school in the Roshtkala district.

Construction of the Sebzor HPP began in 2015. Earlier, it was reported that the station is expected to begin operation in 2024.
