Imports of necessary products via Iranian ports increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. The import of essential products through Iranian ports has increased by 10 percent during the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (March 21 through September 22, 2023).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Ports and Maritime Organization shows that 10.6 million tons of necessary products (wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, rice, sugar, and vegetable oil) were imported through Iranian ports during the six months.

Meanwhile, 4.17 million tons of corn, 3.49 million tons of soybeans, and 1.17 million tons of barley were imported during the mentioned period.

Furthermore, about 626,000 tons of vegetable oil, 562,000 tons of sugar, 531,000 tons of wheat, and 65,600 tons of rice were imported during the six months.

During the mentioned period, imported essential products were transported to different regions of the country by 419,000 trucks and 12,500 railcars.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
