BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16. Small power plants with a production capacity of 127 megawatts were put into operation in Iran from March 20 through October 15, the representative of the Iranian Company for Production, Transmission, and Distribution of Electricity (TAVANIR) Zahra Ismailzade told reporters, Trend reports.
According to her, due to the development in the country, the production capacity of small power plants is planned to be increased by 200 megawatts per year in the coming years.
Ismailzade added that small power plants with a production capacity of 250 megawatts were put into operation in the country last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).
The official noted that five years ago (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020) 350 megawatts, four years ago (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021) 129 megawatts, three years ago (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022) 290 megawatts, and two years ago (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023) 85 megawatts small-sized power plants of megawatt capacity were put into operation.
She stated that due to high gas consumption in Iran last year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), the production of electricity by small-sized gas-fired thermal power plants accounted for 1.5 percent of the production of all thermal power plants in the country.
To note, Iran's electricity production potential is 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants - 12,144 megawatts, the production potential of retail power plants - 2,485 megawatts, the production potential of renewable power plants - 1,300 megawatts, the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant - 1,020 megawatts, and the production potential of diesel units - 408 megawatts.
