BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Iran grows 98 percent of its agricultural seeds domestically, Iranian Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said on October 31 at an event on the presentation of hybrid lettuce seeds in Iran's Alborz Province, Trend reports.
According to him, the production volume of agricultural seeds is 700,000 tons per year.
Nouri added that climate change is currently sweeping the world. Agricultural seeds are of significant importance in producing quality products under such conditions. At the moment, about 450 agricultural seed companies are operating in the country. Of these, 90 percent are private companies.
The minister stated that the value of seeds produced in the country is 1 billion euros. This has been achieved through the efforts of specialists of Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization and other research organizations.
He emphasized that Iran can provide 99.9 percent of the required products domestically by relying on its local potential.
On October 31, Iran's Alborz Jihad Academy presented seven varieties of hybrid lettuce crops.
