BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 3. Following the European Council's sanctions on three Iranian airlines, over 74,000 passengers were transported to and from Istanbul between October 15 and 29, said Saeed Chalandari, the executive director of Imam Khomeini Airport City Company, Trend reports.
He reported that during this period, a total of 366 flights were operated between Imam Khomeini International Airport, located in the Tehran Province of Iran, and Türkiye’s Istanbul Airport.
Chalandari noted that 10 Iranian airlines were involved in the flights, with no foreign carriers operating in this direction during the specified timeframe.
Additionally, he mentioned that a total of 1,130 flights and landings were recorded at Imam Khomeini International Airport, with 171,148 passengers transported overall. During this time, 13 Iranian airlines provided service to 36 destinations outside Istanbul, while 11 foreign airlines also operated flights to and from the city.
To note, the Council of Europe imposed restrictive measures against seven individuals and seven entities linked to Iran's provision of missiles and drones to Russia, as well as actions undermining peace and security in the Middle East and Red Sea regions on October 14.
New sanctions were specifically applied to IranAir, Mahan Airlines, and Saha Airlines.
