The Georgian police have detained a Russian citizen for illegal entry into the occupied territory of Georgia, the Georgian Border Police told Trend.
The resident of the Inozemtsovo village in the Stavropol region was detained in the Ergneti village in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, which is controlled by the Georgian authorities.
The Border Police informs that the Russian citizen entered the South Ossetia through the Roki tunnel on Aug.4, which is prohibited by the Georgian legislation, as no official Georgian checkpoint operate there.
A criminal case was filed against the violator under the Article 322.1 of the Criminal code. The investigative- operational management of the border police investigates the fact.
The detainee could face up a 5-year-prison.
Meanwhile, three offenders of the so-called Georgian-South Ossetian border were detained in South Ossetia. According to the existing tradition, the parties may agree to exchange intruders.
