The Libyan rebel leadership sacked the executive committee of its de-facto government on Monday amid concerns about the handling of the July assassination of the rebel's military leader General Abdel Fatah Younis, dpa reported.

Moustafa Abdel Jalil, chairman of the National Transitional Council, fired several senior officials, including the rebels' finance, defense and information ministers, Al Arabiya television said.

"Many believe that the sacking of the executive branch is part of the crisis which the assassination of Younis caused inside the ranks of the rebels," observers were quoted as saying by Arab media.

The NTC has come under heavy fire for the way it has handled the aftermath of Younis' assassination.
