US President Barack Obama spoke Wednesday by videoconference with leaders from key allies in the European Union, the White House said, dpa reported.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti discussed developments in the eurozone economic crisis with Obama, following up on their talks during the Group of Eight meetings May 18-19 at the US presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland.
The leaders "discussed recent developments in Syria and their shared perspectives on the importance of ending the violence of the government against its own people and the urgency of achieving a political transition," the White House said in a statement.
