A gunman opened fire on a house on Chicago's southwest side early Wednesday, killing a woman and three children - including a 7-month-old boy - police said, AP reported.

The gunman, who was later arrested several miles away, told police he went on the shooting spree after hearing voices that told him to kill members of his family, a person close to the investigation told The Associated Press.

Police believe the gunman is related to the victims, but have not said how. Chicago police spokeswoman Amina Greer said the shooting may have been the result of a domestic situation.

The person close to investigation did not know how they were related. That person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information about the ongoing investigation.

Along with the 7-month-old boy, a 3-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl and an adult female were found dead in the home, authorities said. Two others were wounded in the shooting, police said.

The shootings at the brick home happened about 4:30 a.m. and the man was arrested about 90 minutes, police said. Authorities found a handgun and were trying to figure out if it was used in the shootings. Police did not identify the alleged gunman.

At the time of the shootings, the man chased a 12-year-old girl out of the house and fired at least one shot at her but missed, the person close to the investigation said. The girl later told police what happened, he said.

"This is a really bad crime scene," Chicago Lawn District Commander John Kupczk told reporters. "Something like this is pretty incomprehensible."

A 13-year-old victim was listed in fair condition and an adult woman in critical condition at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, hospital officials said.
