Reporter Studio head, journalist Vakhtang Komakhidze has requested political asylum in Switzerland where he currently residents. In a letter sent to the Web site presa.ge, he explains why he was forced to seek political asylum.

"I am a journalist, Vakhtang Komakhidze, asking for political asylum in a democratic country because my professional activities are limited and my life and my family are threatened," he wrote in the letter.

The journalist said the authorities have begun to show aggression toward him and his life after traveling to Tskhinvali to gather materials about the 2008 August war for a documentary film.

"I think this documentary is of great interest to the Georgian public," he wrote in his letter. "Although I do not know what is particularly disturbing and was painful to the authorities. Maybe the fact that the war began two days before Aug. 6. The Georgian state minister agreed with the Tskhinvali authorities to evacuate the staff of the president's grandmother Alans Gagloyeva from Tskhinvali, while thousands of Georgians were left there to fend for themselves. The request for political asylum is the only way that the film will be finished and will see the screen."
