Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.23 / Trend, T. Hajiyev /
Holding a number of rallies in succession in spring of 2011, some opposition parties only weakened themselves, the opposition Great Establishment Party Chairman MP Fazil Mustafa told Trend.
He said the opposition has the right to hold rallies, but its tactics were wrong.
"The correctness or incorrectness of such organizations' tactics is determined by public support. The rallies' motives and times were wrongly selected. They were inspired by the Arab revolutions. But international forces are behind the Arab revolutions. These processes occurred in countries with many years of statehood, but with the use of an authoritarian governance method," Mustafa said.
He said Azerbaijan is a young state, and on the path of democracy.
"Azerbaijan is a European space; it is a member of the Council of Europe which imposes certain obligations. It also upholds good relations with the EU. We also must not forget that Azerbaijan is in a state of war. One should be selective of tactics, taking into account all of the above-mentioned points", Mustafa said.
Mustafa believes the use of improper tactics resulted in the resignation of many leading opposition forces from the ranks of the opposition.
The Azerbaijani opposition party "Musavat", Popular Front Party, and several opposition parties represented in the so-called Public Chamber, attempted to hold a number of rallies in March-April. The police prevented these rallies from taking place.
