A state of emergency will not be declared in Turkey, as there is no need, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told reporters, TRT Haber reported on Wednesday.
"The opposition has repeatedly suggested to the authorities they should declare a state of emergency. However, we are against it, as there is no need for the strong government to declare it," Arinc said.
As for the 'silent protest' being carried out by the protesters in Taksim Square, according to Arinc, this is acceptable and is not illegal.
Protest rallies have been on-going in Turkey for more than 20 days. According to the authorities, the protests have already acquired an anti-government character.
Turkey's opposition parties accuse the police of using excessive force against the protesters.
Earlier, the Interior Minister of Turkey said an investigation is underway into the use of excessive force against the protesters.
