ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 16. As of September 1, 2024, Turkmenistan has rolled out more than 5.8 million bank cards, showing a 4.7 percent uptick from the start of January 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan (CBT) reveals a 0.67 percent month-on-month rise, equating to an additional 38,633 cards issued since August 2024, when the total was 5.8 million.
The CBT data highlights that Turkmenistan saw a significant year-over-year increase in card issuance.
In January 2023, the country issued 5.2 million cards, reflecting an 8.5 percent rise, or 406,045 more cards, from January 2022, which saw 4.8 million cards issued.
