BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. Iran expects to harvest 1.8-2 million tons of rice during the current Iranian year (from March 2025 through March 2026), Deputy Agriculture Minister Majid Anjafi said, Trend reports.
According to him, rice has been planted on about 670,000 hectares this season due to water shortages and other restrictions. Anjafi noted that if water supplies allow for a second planting, overall output could increase.
The Agriculture Ministry reports that Iran produces more than 130 million tons of agricultural products annually, including 91 million tons of crops. With domestic rice consumption reaching around 3.5 million tons per year, the shortfall is covered through imports.
