Over 80 percent of income from hotel business in Azerbaijan falls to 80 percent

The number of hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan in 2009 increased by 82 - up to 452, the number of rooms in hotels - by 1,175 - up to 13,964 units, single room capacity - from 2,285 to 30,571, the State Statistics Committee said.

The State Statistics Committee said that about 16.4 percent of rooms in hotels of Azerbaijan are luxury, 48 percent - of first class, 35.6 percent - for tourists.

About 89 objects of the total number of hotels and hotel-type are located in Baku, 13 - in Sumgait, 8 - Ganja, 8 - Mingachevir, 8 - Naftalan, 8 - Shirvan, 22 - Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, 41 - Khachmaz, 30 - Masalli, 26 - Shamakha, 24 - Guba, 16 - Ismailli, 15 - Sheki, 12 - Lankaran, 11 - Zagatala, 10 - Gakh, 1 - Gabala, 9 - Gusar, 8 - Lerik. The remaining 90 objects are located in other regions of the country.

The volume of capacity of these hotels in Baku is 7,768 seats, Khachmaz - 4,869, Naftalan - 3,590, Nakhchivan - 1,495, Masalli - 1,248, Guba - 979, Ganja - 967, Sumgait - 839, Mingechevir - 764, Lerik - 648, Shamakha - 638, Gabala - 602, Sheki - 566, Ismailli - 668, Gakh - 494, Lankaran - 411, Zagatala - 357, Gusar - 283, Shirvan - 128, other parts of Azerbaijan - 3,367 seats.

During 2009, about 424.200 people were served in hotels and hotel-type facilities of the country. The number of Azerbaijanis served during the year increased by 3.8 percent up to 50.8 percent of the total number of foreigners - 6.8 percent (49.2 percent).

About 85.9 percent of the total number of foreigners who arrived in Azerbaijan used the services of hotels in Baku in 2009. During the year the number of tourists who arrived in Baku on trips, amounted to only 5.7 percent of the total number of tourists.

During the year, there were 1.3151 places for clients. About 57.3 percent were local citizens and 42.7 percent - foreign.

About 208,868 foreign citizens were placed in hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan in 2009.

Despite 8.1 percent increase in the capacity of hotels and hotel-type facilities in 2009, the number of clients reduced by 1.7 percent, and revenue - by 1,6 percent. Revenues from all hotels was 97 million manat. About 65.6 percent were received through the sale of hotel rooms, 19.3 percent - sales of food and beverages, 7.9 percent - therapeutic services, 7.2 percent - at the expense of other paid services.

Most of hotels' revenues - 83,7 percent, was received in Baku, 4.8 percent - in Guba-Khachmaz economic zone, 2.6 percent - Lankaran, 2,2 percent - Nakhchivan, 2,2 percent - Sheki-Zagatala, 1,4 percent - Ganja-Gazakh, 1.2 percent - Mountainous-Shirvan, 1 percent - Absheron, 0.9 percent - the Aran economic zones.

Hotels and hotel-type facilities operating in Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, as well as in areas of Masalli, Khachmaz, Shemakha, worked with profit in 2009. Hotels in Absheron, Gusar, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala and Khizi areas - with loss.

The cost of hotel rooms for foreign guests in Azerbaijan amounted to 102.6 manat per night, in Baku - 109,5 manat, Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic - 39,5 manat, Ganja - 53 manat, Khachmaz - 36,5 manat, Guba - 95 manat, Khizi - 64 manat, Sheki - 45,1 manat, Gabala - 17,4 manat, Ismayilli - 11,8 manat.

During the year, the average number of employees in the hotel sphere in Azerbaijan increased by 321 people or 5.7 percent - up to 5,937 people, the average salary of employees increased by 20 up to 211 manat average.
